Mold Removal in Toronto

Mold growth is a problem in most homes in Toronto. The cost of mold removal in Toronto can be very high. Generally, mold is a problem in moist areas like the bathroom and basement. There are many companies that provide mold removal services in Toronto. Before you pay for mold removal or you undertake mold removal yourself, it is a good idea to determine if you have a mold problem and if so which type of mold is growing in your home.

Mold testing in Toronto

Professional mold testing can be expensive. However, in most cases you can test the mold yourself thus saving money. While there are many mold kits available at hardware stores, home supply warehouses and online we DO NOT recommend any kit that is said to give instant results. You should use the same equipment and the same labs that professional mold inspectors use. If you want to test for visible mold growth we recommend using clear scotch tape which you can easily obtain from a dollar store. If you would like to test for air quality in your home, then we would recommend the mold test kit used by mold professionals.

When Is Do It Yourself Mold Removal Recommended?

The mold removal process depends on the extent of mold growth. If the total area covered by mold growth in your home is less than 10 square feet, then, with proper protection you can remove mold with ordinary household cleaning products. Disturbing big infestations of mold can result in release very high concentrations of mold spores. Airborne mold spores are a health risk, particularly if you are an allergy sufferer or have a weakened immune system. If you have than 10 square feet of visible mold growth, do it yourself mold removal is not recommended. Use local mold removal contractors. If you don’t know any mold removal contractor in Toronto, use Google or other search engines to search for “mold removal in Toronto” to find local companies that provide mold removal services. It’s important you get quotes from several companies and the quote should include the procedure they use to remove mold and references from their past happy clients.

Mold Growth Prevention

It is practically impossible to eliminate all mold and mold spores in the indoor environment; the way to control indoor mold growth is to control moisture. After mold removal you can prevent regrowth of mold by keeping the area dry. Make sure any leaks that contributed to moisture are properly sealed. If mold growth was due to high humidity, you may consider installing a dehumidifier in rooms that have poor ventilation. Whenever showering or cooking ensure the fans are on to reduce accumulation of moisture indoors. In the shower or bath, take a moment to dry the tub or shower after each use to reduce moisture in the air. Regularly cleaning your home will also keep mold from regrowing.
