Mold Removal in Calgary

Mold testing in Calgary homes is often performed due to moisture damage or marijuana grow-ops. If a home was used for grow-ops the Alberta Health Services (AHS) requires that the owner hires a qualified professional to fully and completely investigate and assess the building, including hidden cavities and surfaces, for signs of water damage and molds. Before you pay for mold removal it is important to perform mold inspection and testing to determine if you have a mold problem and if so which types of mold are growing in your home and the cause(s) of mold growth.

Calgary Mold Removal and Mold Testing

There are many companies in Calgary that specialize in mold removal and mold testing. If mold growth in your home was due to marijuana grow-ops you must hire a qualified consultant to perform the mold investigation. If mold in your home is due to moisture damage (i.e., has nothing to do with marijuana) you can pay a professional mold inspector to test the mold for you or you can test the mold yourself thus saving money. However, if you are to do mold testing yourself, you should use the same equipment and the same labs that professional mold inspectors use. If you want to test for visible mold growth we recommend using clear scotch tape which you can easily obtain from a dollar store. If you would like to test for air quality in your home, then we would recommend the mold test kit used by mold professionals.

When Can You Perform Mold Removal Yourself?

If mold growth was due to marijuana grow-ops you must hire qualified consultants to investigate and recommend how the mold removal is to proceed regardless of the level of contamination. If the mold growth is not due to marijuana activities and the total area covered by mold growth is less than 10 square feet, then, with proper protection you can clean the mold with ordinary household cleaning products. Larger areas should be handled by one of the mold removal companies in Calgary. If you don’t know any local mold removal company, use Google or other search engines to search for the phrase “mold removal in Calgary” to find local companies that provide mold removal services. It’s important you get quotes from several companies. The quote should include the procedure they use to remove mold and references from their past happy clients.

Mold Growth Prevention

Mold growth in homes is primarily caused by moisture. Keeping the affected areas clean and dry will effectively prevent mold from re-occurring. Make sure any leaks that contributed to moisture are fixed. If mold growth was due to high humidity, you may consider installing a dehumidifier in rooms that have poor ventilation. Whenever showering or cooking ensure the fans are on to reduce accumulation of moisture indoors. In the shower or bath, take a moment to dry the bathtub or shower after each use to reduce moisture in the air.
